Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Police then found numerous other smeared cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
An important political figure commented the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
