The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
