As any significant honors show draws close, one notices a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of fans dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for board games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.
This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything in 2014
- Another creative title missed out that year
- Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Frequently they represent compact experiences, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The legendary block-stacking game challenges famous sandbox experiences for the title of best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.
Restating the point, these are games lacking appropriate categories in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay generations.
